* Please note that foreign citizens who will leave Japan (nonresidents of Japan) are required to close their account.

  No, there is not. However, predetermined commissions or handling fees are charged for the cancellation of time deposits and debentures before maturity.

Account closure request by post by customers who already left Japan are not acceptable. However you have alternative ways (see below) to clear your account and receive the account balance instead of closing your account.

1. Overseas remittance request by post to receive the account balance by fund transfer

  • This option is available to those who have account balance of JPY 10,000 or more (or its equivalent in foreign currency) in total.
  • Currency can be selected among currencies available for PowerFlex account.
  • Overseas remittance service fee is JPY 4,000 which is deducted from the account balance.
  • To request this option, call our call center, Shinsei PowerCall*.
  • After the account was cleared, the account will be blocked.

2. Request by post to issue cashier’s check and receive it by post

  • This option is available to those who have their account balance of JPY 10,000 or more (or its equivalent in foreign currency) in total.
  • Cashier’s check can be issued in the currency available for PowerFlex account.
  • Cashier’s check issuance fee is JPY 4,000 which is deducted from the account balance.
  • To request this option, call our call center, Shinsei PowerCall*.
  • After the account was cleared, the account will be blocked.

3. Cash withdrawal by the customer him/herself at ATMs bearing the VISA or PLUS symbol.
If the account balance is less than JPY 10,000, this is the only way to get the account balance outside Japan.

Customers who opt to close their account at branch in Japan are required to bring their cash card and hanko (if hanko was registered instead of signature). The balance in the account is paid in JPY cash as Shinsei Bank does not handle foreign currency cash. Please note that limited branches can handle the account closure procedures, and that the cut-off time for the procedures is 3 p.m. Please call our call center, Shinsei PowerCall* before visiting the branch.

Customers who opened PowerFlex accounts in or after January 2016, Individual Number (also called "My Number") will be required for the procedure above. If you didn't submit documents to verify your Individual Number when you were in Japan, close your account at branch office when you are able to return to Japan in the future.
