Emilio Botín became a Director in April 2000. He has been the Chairman of Banco Santander Central Hispano SA since April 1999, following the merger of Banco Central Hispanoamericano and Banco Santander, of which he had been the Chairman since December 1986, and has been the Chairman of Grupo Santander.
