Who can open an account?

  • You must be a resident of Japan.
  • You must have resided in Japan for over 6 months or more, or working in a company with a office located in Japan. This will exclude part-time jobs. For more details, please click here.
  • You must own a personal Japanese telephone number. The phone number at your workplace or someone else's phone number will not be accepted.

Ineligibilities

  • Those who have resided less than 6 months after entering Japan and who are not working in Japan or those who have diplomatic, official, or short-term visa status.
  • Corporate application
  • Post office box address
  • Joint accounts

Customers who are classified as Foreign Politically Exposed Persons, PEPs will be required to open their account in person at the branch.

Services at our branches are mainly provided in Japanese. Some branches have English speaking staff, but they may not always be available. If you have concerns about communication, we recommend visiting a branch with someone who can understand Japanese. We appreciate your understanding.

Branch Locations

Required Identification Documents for opening an account (PowerFlex account)

To open an account at a branch, please prepare one of the following identification documents before you go to the branch. Also, make sure you bring the original of the required identification documents and NOT photocopies.

Residence Card or Special Permanent Resident Certificate

  • Please provide the original and NOT a photocopy.
  • Check if the address on the card is your current address.
  • The period of stay should not have passed.

Driver's License in Japan

  • Please provide the original and NOT a photocopy.
  • Check if the address on the card is your current address.
  • The driver's license must be issued for more than six months. (If a driver's license is used for identification verification then you may need to also confirm your status of residence.)

- We may also need to confirm your status of residence if you use your Japanese Driver's license for identification verification.
